ABOUT
Katie T, La, MA, LPC-S

Katie La, MA, LPC-S Licensed Professional Counselor & Supervisor
“Absorbing pain is generational trauma. Healing yourself is generational wealth.” ~Katie La
For years, Katie has questioned traditional mental health modalities and techniques. She searched and immersed herself into reading and learning about more effective ways to help people from under-represented, historically excluded, under-served, disadvantaged, and systemically oppressed communities.
She has been licensed since 2008 and has worked in hospital-based inpatient and outpatient facilities, advocacy centers, and has been in private practice since 2013. Additionally, she speaks at retreats, hosts and presents at events, leads groups, and supervises associates toward full licensure. She has also hosted a Vietnamese radio talk-show on mental health, been a guest speaker for several psychology-based groups, and taught as a psychology professor at several colleges.
She is fluent in speaking, reading, and writing Vietnamese and aspires to be able to do more to bring mental health awareness and support to AAPI/immigrant communities. She is also a strong advocate for BIPOC communities.
Her education consists of being a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where she earned the Masters of Arts degree in Christian Counseling in 2004. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in Christianity from Houston Baptist University in 2001.
Katie offers therapy from a trauma-informed lens and has a justice-oriented, decolonized approach that focuses on more holistic healing. She often incorporates psychoeducation in her counseling sessions with clients in order to better enhance their understanding of their issues.
She has a broad range of experience working with individuals with dual diagnoses, comorbidity, and a wide variety of trauma and mental health disorders. Her primary specialty focus is trauma, which she believes is the culprit for many mental health issues, relationship difficulties, and self-esteem struggles.
Not only does Katie offer psychoeducation as a tool to help clients gain better insight into themselves and their struggles; she also administers diagnostic tools, which provide more thorough assessment and evaluations for clients. Katie is EMDR-trained, polyvagal-trained, and will soon be IFS-trained as well to further enhance her client’s healing processes.
