Katie La, MA, LPC-S Licensed Professional Counselor & Supervisor

Katie La is a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where she earned the Masters of Arts degree in Christian Counseling in 2004. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in Christianity from Houston Baptist University in 2001. Katie became fully licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) for the state of Texas in 2011 and received her LPC-Supervisor licensure in 2013, at which time she also went into full time private practice.  She is fluent in speaking, reading, and writing Vietnamese and has hosted a mental health radio talk show on the Dallas/Fort Worth Vietnamese radio station to address a variety of topics specific to this community.

Katie has nearly ten years of experience teaching college level psychology courses as an adjunct professor, and she often incorporates psychoeducation in her counseling sessions with clients in order to better enhance their understanding of their issues. 

In addition, Katie served for several years as a counselor at Springwood Hospital where she worked with patients in detox and drug rehabilitation as well as psychiatric adolescents and adults in inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient units.  She administered group therapy, family therapy, and psychiatric assessments as a counselor at Springwood, and she also assisted in utilization reviews and insurance verification.   

She has a broad range of experience working with individuals with dual diagnoses, comorbidity, and a wide variety of trauma and mental health disorders.  Her primary specialty is trauma, which she believes is the culprit for many mental health issues, relationship difficulties, and self-esteem struggles.

Not only does Katie offer psychoeducation as a tool to help clients gain better insight into themselves and their struggles; she also administers diagnostic tools, which provide more thorough assessment and evaluations for clients.  Katie is EMDR-trained and will soon be fully trained and certified in biofeedback techniques as well to further enhance her client’s healing processes.
